Yoga journeys, pictures of Cheneil, Valley d’Aosta, Italian Alps

Take a look at pictures of Cheneil…

Yogagaia invites you to have a look at pictures of Cheneil taken during a few of our journeys. Cheneil (wikipedia/italian) is a locality belonging to the municipality of Valtournenche (Valle d’Aosta). It is a place of particular naturalistic beauty, landscapes of mountains, larches and broadleaves, located in the italian alps. There is the Sanctuary of Clavalité, from where you can enjoy  the stunningly beautiful view over the Matterhorn and the Grandes Murailles as well as over the adjoining peaks. These mountains have many stories to tell us about their origin and evolution through millions of years. They harbor many human dramas as well. One of these, the story of the first ascent of the Matterhorn, is a human drama with heroes and victims. Meet the inhabitants of Cheneil and get to know their lovely families, and all their pets, including horses. The homemade food is exquisite Northern Italian Cuisine. It is one of the few Valle d’Aosta villages not reachable by car.

For centuries, there was no real village here until the beginning of the 20th century, with the construction of two hotels. Finding itself along the trail that leads to the summit of the Grand Tournalin, Cheneil was crossed and remembered by the great names of mountaineering, like Edward Whymper.

Images worth thousands of words, pictures of Cheneil tell about how much of a magnificent environment it is for relaxing, meditating, hiking, practicing yoga and so much more. Over 200 kilometres of hiking trails, from those at high altitude to those for families or walkers who just want to stroll and relax, surrounded by countryside and silent woods, following well-signposted trails featuring breathtaking views, just a stone’s throw from Cervinia and Valtournenche town centres. The Cheneil valley (which can ‘only’ be reached on foot or with the help of a lift) offers tourists a timeless natural environment, characterised by the unspoilt countryside of this valley, featuring dense fragrant woodland and the scent of verjuice.
